Αυτή τη στιγμή (18/03/23) υπάρχουν 11 άτομα σε απεργία πείνας στο κλειστό κέντρο κράτησης της Δράμας. Στις 16/3/23, πέντε άτομα ξεκίνησαν απεργία πείνας και στη συνέχεια συμμετείχαν τα υπόλοιπα. Ξεκίνησαν την απεργία πείνας για να διαδηλώσουν για τις συνθήκες μέσα στο καμπ, μια κατάσταση στην οποία ζουν εδώ και μήνες. Απαιτούν να αφεθούν άμεσα ελεύθεροι.
Στην αρχή οι μπάτσοι δεν έδειξαν καμία αντίδραση (μια συνήθης τακτική για να καταστρέψουν κάθε μορφή αντίστασης μέσα στο κέντρο κράτησης) και συνέχισαν να καταγράφουν ότι οι μερίδες φαγητού που τους δόθηκαν είχαν καταναλωθεί, παρότι τα άτομα είχαν ανακοινώσει την απεργία πείνας. Από σήμερα, έχει γίνει καταγραφή των ονομάτων και αριθμών μητρώου όσων ατόμων αρνούνται να καταναλώσουν οποιασδήποτε μορφής στερεά τροφή. Συνεχίζουν να καταναλώνουν νερό. Σήμερα πραγματοποιήθηκε ιατρικός έλεγχος σε όλους τους απεργούς πείνας για να ελεχθούν οι ζωτικές τους λειτουργίες. Οι απεργοί πείνας έχουν δηλώσει ότι “θέλουν να απελευθερωθούν, αλλιώς αρνούνται να φάνε μέχρι να πεθάνουν”. Οι περισσότεροι από αυτούς δεν έχουν επαφές με κανένα άτομο εκτός του κέντρου κράτησης και θέλουν να ακουστεί η διαμαρτυρία τους για τα δικαιώματα που απαιτούν.
Στις περισσότερες περιπτώσεις οι άνθρωποι περνάνε 7 μήνες μέσα στο καμπ πριν αφεθούν, εξαναγκάζονται να υπογράφουν έγγραφα στα ελληνικά, χωρίς να γνωρίζουν τη γλώσσα και χωρίς να τους μεταφράζονται αυτά που υπογράφουν. Στην περίπτωση που αρνηθούν, υπογράφουν οι μπάτσοι αντί γι’αυτούς ενώ δέχονται και σωματική βία ως απάντηση στην άρνησή τους.
Ο μόνος λόγος που προβάλλει το κράτος για να δικαιολογήσει τον εγκλεισμό τους είναι η έλλειψη νομιμοποιητικών εγγράφων, και αυτή είναι η γενικότερη συνθήκη του να είσαι μετανάστρια/μετανάστης. Οι αιτήσεις ασύλου και οι ενστάσεις απορρίπτονται ξανά και ξανά και δεν γίνεται κατανοητό τι συμβαίνει με τους φακέλους τους. Κάποιοι από αυτούς έχουν οικογένεια στην ελλάδα ή άλλες (ευρωπαϊκές) χώρες. Όλες οι συνθήκες είναι μεθοδευμένες για να τους οδηγήσουν να υπογράψουν για την απέλασή τους, αλλά ακόμη κι αυτό δεν καταλήγει κάπου, αφού δεν απελάσσονται. Παραμένουν στα καμπς χωρίς να γνωρίζουν μέχρι πότε, ενώ φαίνεται να είναι ξεχασμένοι από όλους.
Οι συνθήκες διαβίωσής τους είναι αισχρές. Δε λαμβάνουν κανενός είδους ανθρώπινη μεταχείριση, είναι απομονωμένοι/ες από τις οικογένειες και τους φίλους τους καθ’όλη τη διάρκεια του εγκλεισμού. Δεν τους επιτρέπεται καμιά επίσκεψη ή ιδιωτικότητα με τις οικογένειες ή φιλικά πρόσωπα καθώς και δεν υπάρχει η δυνατότητα να τους σταλθεί φαγητό ή άλλα αντικείμενα (εκτός από χρήματα).
Κοιμούνται σε κατεστραμμένα στρώματα ενώ απαγορεύεται να χρησιμοποιήσουν δεύτερο, ακόμη κι αν τους είναι αναγκαίο για να μην κοιμούνται με συνεχείς πόνους. Το ζεστό νερό ελέγχεται από τους μπάτσους, πράγμα που σημαίνει ότι το ανοίγουν και το κλείνουν όποτε θέλουν και άρα πρακτικά δεν υπάρχει ποτέ ζεστό νερό. Τα σώματά τους πονάνε συνεχώς και δεν υπάρχει κανένα στάνταρ υγιεινής.
Δεν έχουν πρόσβαση σε φάρμακα και για να τους παραχθεί φροντίδα απο γιατρό πρέπει να κλείσουν ραντεβού πέντε μέρες πριν. Συνεπώς τους πηγαίνουν νοσοκομείο μόνο σε επείγουσες καταστάσεις και κατά τη διάρκεια της επίσκεψης παραμένουν με χειροπέδες ενώ τους αφαιρούνται προσωπικά αντικείμενα (κινητό, χρήματα) και δεν έχουν επαφή με κανέναν. Ακόμη και άτομα με ιατρικές παθήσεις δεν έχουν πρόσβαση σε φαρμακευτική αγωγή, γεγονός που βάζει τη ζωή τους σε θάνατο.
Τα κελιά τους είναι γεμάτα κατσαρίδες, βακτήρια και άλλα έντομα. Συχνά ξυπνάνε από τις κατσαρίδες που περπατάνε πάνω στα ρούχα τους. Το φαγητό είναι πάντα το ίδιο, καθόλου θρεπτικό και αμαγείρευτο. Το νερό πρέπει είτε να το αγοράσουν (2,5 ευρώ το λίτρο) ή να πιουν από την τουαλέτα, όπου υποτίθεται ότι είναι φιλτραρισμένο αλλά σε κάποια κελιά το φίλτρο έχει σπάσει και οι μπάτσοι δεν έχουν νοιαστεί να το αντικαταστήσουν. Τα πάντα είναι πανάκριβα και καθώς βρίσκονται σε πλήρη απομόνωση είναι αδύνατο να προμηθευτούν οτιδήποτε. Το κράτος και οι εταιρίες που τροφοδοτούν το καμπ είναι κλέφτες και κερδοφορούν εις βάρους των φυλακισμένων στα κέντρα κράτησης.
Δεν υπάρχει τρόπος να καταγραφούν η βία και οι συνθήκες στις οποίες εξαναγκάζονται αυτοί οι άνθρωποι. Όταν εισάγονται στο καμπ τα κινητά τους κατάσχονται, καταστρέφονται οι κάμερες και μπαίνουν υπό παρακολούθηση, πριν τους επιστραφούν. Τα άτομα διαδηλώνουν είτε αυτοτραυματίζοντας τους εαυτούς/ες τους είτε ανεβαίνοντας στις ταράτσες. Και στις δύο περιπτώσεις οι μπάτσοι τους αγνοούν στην αρχή και στη συνέχεια απαντούν με συστηματική σωματική βία και εξευτελισμό. Γενικά το να μπουν οι μπάτσοι στους χώρους τους και να παρενοχλούν τα άτομα είναι μια καθημερινή ρουτίνα στο καμπ. Οι ρατσιστές μπάτσοι έχουν τον πλήρη έλεγχο στις ζωές και τις βασικές ανάγκες των ατόμων.
Αυτά τα άτομα διεκδικούν την ελευθερία τους. Φυλακίζονται, απομονώνονται και υποβάλλονται σε βίαιη και υποτιμητική μεταχείριση σε μια χώρα στην οποία δε θέλουν καν να παραμείνουν. Αντιστέκονται και λαμβάνουν άμεση δράση ώστε να απελευθερωθούν από τη φυλακή και να ακουστούν οι φωνές τους. Ζητούν να κοινοποιηθεί ο αγώνας τους όσο πιο πολύ γίνεται κι εμείς τους στηρίζουμε.

FOR THE HUNGER STRIKERS OF DRAMAS DETENTION CENTER
Currently there are 11 people on hunger strike in the closed detention centre of Drama. On the 16th of March, five people started the strike and a day later other people joined. They started a hunger strike to protest against the conditions inside the camp, a situation that they have been living in for months now. They demand to be immediately released.
In the beginning, the cops didn’t show any reaction (a common tactic of destroying every form of resistance inside the centre) and continued to document that the food had been consumed by the inmates, even though they had announced their hunger strike. As from today, their names and detention numbers were noted, including all the people that refuse to consume any kind of solid nutrition. The only thing they are consuming is water. The hungerstrikers were taken for a medical examination today, in order to test their vital functions. The hungerstrikers have mentioned that, “they wanna get released or refuse to eat until they die”. Most of these people don’t have contacts with anyone outside the detention centre and they want to be heard, for their protest and the rights they’re claiming.
In most stories, people spend around seven months inside the camp before they are released, and are forced to sign papers in Greek without knowing the language and without being provided any translation of what they’re signing for. If they refuse to sign, the cops sign it for them. In some cases, they also receive physical violence as a response.
The only reason the state provides for their detention is that they don’t have papers and that’s the general condition of being immigrants. Their asylum applications and appeals are getting rejected over and over again and they have no clue or understanding about what is happening to their files. Some of them have families that live in Greece or other (european) countries. All of these conditions are intended to push them to sign for their own deportation, but even this does not result in them leaving the centre, because they are not getting deported. They stay open endedly in these prisons, while it seems like they are forgotten by everyone.
The conditions they’re living in are horrible. They are not receiving any kind of humane treatment and they have been isolated from their families and friends over the period of incarceration. They are not allowed any visits or other form of privacy with their families or friends. There are not even options to send food or other items (except for money) to them.
They sleep on destroyed mattresses and it is forbidden to use a second one, even though this is absolutely necessary for them not to sleep in constant pain. The warm water is under the control of the cops, which means they can turn it on and off whenever they want, so practically there is never warm water. Their bodies are in constant pain and there are zero hygienic standards.They have no access to medicine and the appointments for doctors are supposed to be made five days before. Therefore, they’re only brought to the hospital in an emergency, where they keep them with no personal belongings and no contact to anyone (phones, money, etc…) and tied in handcuffs. Even people that have pre-existing medical conditions are refused their daily supply of medicine, which puts the lives of several people in danger.
The cells are full of cockroaches, bacteria and other insects. When they sleep they wake up from cockroaches crawling on their clothes. The food is always the same: not nutritious, uncooked and uneatable. The water must either be paid for at 2,50 euros per litre or fetched from the bathroom, which is supposed to get filtered, but when the filter broke in their cell, the cops didn’t bother to replace it. Everything is overpriced and since they are in complete isolation is not possible to provide other supplies easily. The state and the companies that bring the supplies are thieves and they make a very lucrative business over the prison complex of detention centers.
There isn’t even the possibilty of documenting the violence and the conditions that these people are put in. When entering the camp, their phones get seized, cameras get destroyed and their phones are put under constant surveillance.People are protesting, mostly by cutting themselves or going up on the rooftops. In both cases, the cops are ignoring them in first instance and in the second, resistant people receive systematic physical violence and humiliation. In general, a group of cops entering their space and starting to assault people is a day to day routine in the camp. The racist cops have full control over their lives and all their basic needs.
The hungerstrikers are demanding their freedom. They are imprisoned, isolated, and subject to violent and degrading treatment in a country they don’t even want to stay at. They are resisting and taking direct action to be free from the prison and have their voices heard. They are asking that their struggle gets known as widely as possible and we support them.
